Minimum requirements to run a course

Information for potential course directors:
FEEL-UK courses are designed to be run by anyone anywhere whilst ensuring minimum standards are maintained and the students receive the same course. Once a course is registered with the BSE a course pack detailing all the lectures and practical stations and the course manuals will be available to the course director and course organiser.

In order to register your course with the BSE the following must be established:

  • Course Director: must be TTE accredited or equivalent and have attended a FEEL course.
  • Course Venue: with lecture theatre suitable for 50 people, one large room suitable for 10 hands on training stations (look up approx size of room at college or Liverpool) or several smaller rooms co – located.
  • Course date.

The CD should then contact the BSE – weblink- and complete the ‘Intention to run a course’ agreement, guaranteeing that the course will be run according to the guidance in the manuals. On receipt of this agreement and confirmation of the relevant qualifications of the CD, the course will be allocated a set of unique course numbers for each student . This number will be the student reference number with the BSE and also be required for the student to gain access to the on line learning materials. In addition the CD will have access to the course manuals , lecture slide sets and relevant video clips. There ere are currently 4 manuals:
  • Section A: Course director / Course organisers manual – detailing how to organise and run the course.
  • Section B: Faculty Manual – includes all the lecture slides and minimum speaker notes, learning objectives for all the hands on stations.
  • Section C: Student manual.
  • Section D: Local Mentors guide.
Additional information to consider before planning a course: The course is a one day course on a tight timetable – having rooms co-located minimises disruptions and time lost moving in between hands on stations.
It is heavily faculty dependent – and at least 50% of the HOT faculty must be TTE accredited. The remaining HOT faculty must be FEEL certified. It may be useful to enlist the support of the local echocardiography department or cardiologists.
AS this is peri resuscitation ALS compliant imaging – it is useful to involve the resuscitation officers.
