Background - course development
FEEL-UK has been devised by adapting existing researched and implemented echo courses which have been shown to successfully teach ALS-compliant echocardiography for the peri-resuscitation setting.Standardised pre-course materials, course materials, course requirements and instructions (for directors, faculty, trainees and mentors) have all been written for UK use.
A pilot course was conducted at the Royal College of Anaesthetists on 16th March 2009. Invited were representatives from: The Royal College of Physicians, Surgeons, and Anaesthetists, The College of Emergency Medicine, The Resuscitation Council and Resuscitation Officers.
Formal endorsement from the Resuscitation Council has been sought, and the impact of ALS-compliant peri-resuscitation echocardiography on future resuscitation guidelines is being discussed.
FEEL-UK has been copyrighted and trade-marked in order to protect the content. It is proposed that FEEL-UK is run as a franchise, administered by a central body: this will serve to minimise the input required for administration and ensure standards.
Courses are now being run nationally.
